Natsume's Book of Friends (夏目友人帳 Natsume Yuujinchou) is a Japanese fantasy manga series by Yuki Midorikawa. It began serialization by Hakusensha in the shoujo manga magazine LaLa DX in 2005, before switching to LaLa in 2008. The manga is then serialized in 4 anime seasons produced by Brain's Base, broadcasted in TV Tokyo.


The main character, Takashi Natsume, have the ability to see spirits since his young age. He also inherited the Book of Friends from his late grandmother, Reiko, whom also had strong spiritual power. Together with his self-style bodyguard, Nyanko-sensei, Natsume decided to return all the names in the book, meeting with new friends along the way.

Description: Natsume’s Book of Friends follows the story of high school student Takashi Natsume, who

possesses a strong ability to see spirits. He inherited this strange ability from his grandmother and has had it as long as he can remember, which has made him introverted and shy. His life changes one day when he receives a mysterious book that belonged to his now deceased grandmother—the Book of Friends. Takashi soon discovers that the book is filled with the names of countless spirits that were sealed away by his grandmother. Not only that—the spirits who have their names written in the book must obey any order given by its owner. As a result, the book becomes a prime target for all roaming spirits trying to gain control of the spirit world. Believing it to be the right thing to do, Takashi takes it upon himself to return the names of the spirits written in the book.
